Frequently Asked Questions
I accept all major credit cards, as well as HSA and FSA cards using Stripe on the platform Simple Practice.
I am currently in network with: Aetna, Pacific Source, Regence Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Oregon Health Plan, and Optum/ United Behavioral Health. I will update this list as I become paneled with additional insurance providers.
Therapy with me may still be covered by your insurance as an out of network benefit. I encourage you to contact your insurance company about out-of-network benefits prior to our first meeting (see "How do I check my insurance coverage?" below). I can provide you with receipts (super-bills) to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. You are responsible for the full session fee at the time of service.

I recommend calling your insurance company and asking the following questions:
-
Do I have mental health insurance benefits and do I need pre-authorization to access them?
-
Is Dr. Aakash Kishore, Ph.D. at 2705 E. Burnside St. Suite 206, Portland Oregon 97214 a preferred/in network provider?
-
What is my copay for each session?
-
What is my annual deductible and how much have I spent towards my deductible so far?
-
When in this year does the deductible start over?
-
-
If Dr. Kishore is not in network with my insurance, what percent will you cover per session for an out-of-network provider and what percentage is my responsibility?
-
For CPT billing code code 90837 (individual therapy session) and 90791 (initial intake/assessment session), what is your reimbursement rate?
-
What is the process for seeking reimbursement from my insurance provider after I have paid for a session?
-
-
Are there any limits on how many mental health therapy sessions I can have?
Also see the "Affording Therapy" tab on my Resources page for additional tips on maximizing out-of-network reimbursement
My rates for service are:
-
$275 for an initial intake session
-
$250 for a 55 minute individual therapy session
My rates are reflective of my credentials and training specializations, and are set in accordance with community standards for doctoral level clinicians. This also enables me to provide care for some clients who cannot afford my full rates (see "Do you offer a sliding scale?")

I recognize and honor that therapy is a significant investment of energy, emotion, time, and money for most people, and that making this investment may require sacrifices. I am happy to speak with you about strategies to fit your budget. For example, we can discuss realistic goals and a treatment plan to work within a set number of sessions so that you can get the most out of therapy.
I do reserve a small number of therapy slots for individuals who need a sliding scale fee. This is to make culturally responsive, justice informed mental health care accessible to those who have little or no out-of-network insurance coverage and for whom paying my full fee would present significant hardship. Note that clients are NOT eligible for sliding scale if I am in-network with their insurance.
I ask that each potential client consider sacrifice vs. hardship when determining their capacity to pay, where sacrifice might mean cutting back on other spending (not going out for coffee or to dinner, not purchasing a new outfit), while hardship would mean not being able to meet basic needs (unable to pay rent, put food on the table, pay for transportation to get to work, etc.). If you are able to pay on the higher end of the scale, you are enabling others to access care with me. If finances are a barrier, please get in touch with me to discuss current sliding scale availability.
I require at least 24 hours notice to cancel an appointment. If you are unable to make it to your scheduled appointment, please let me know as soon as possible. The first time a client fails to show up for a scheduled appointment or cancels with less than 24 hours notice they will be charged a $100 fee. Subsequent no-shows or late cancellations will be billed at the full session rate.
Please note that insurance does not reimburse or cover fees for no-show or late canceled appointments.
